United Women in Faith (UWF) is an organization of approximately one million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. • The Purpose Statement of the United Women in Faith (UWF)

We seek to connect and nurture women through Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship and education so that they can inspire, influence and impact local and global communities.

  • UWF (previously UMW) at First United Methodist of Santa Rosa

Back in January 2009, about 35 women (both UMW members and non-members) attended UMW’s Planning and Dreaming Retreat at Santa Rosa’s CHOPS Teen Center. Several women in attendance (who are not members of UMW) were surprised to learn about all that UMW does. Before the retreat, they thought United Methodist Women were the “Snowflake Bazaar” and “Spring Fling” ladies. And they are…but so much more.

  • Mission and Service

UWF (previously UMW) of FUMC donated $5,500 last year to worldwide missions dedicated to the wellbeing of women and children. They donated $1,700 to local missions, including FISH, the Battered Women’s Shelter, Friends Outside, The Living Room, Women’s Recovery Services, FUMC Preschool, CAP Harold's House, and YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter. In addition, they provided $200 for youth camperships, donated $400 to send people to Mission Education events, and contributed an additional $800 to our local church budget, plus $200 to our Good Shepherd Fund. Along with financial contributions, UMW sponsored the Women's Retreat and baked Christmas cookies for homebound church members. Our events such as World Day of Prayer, Prayer Workshops, Spring Fling, Fijian Luau, Snowflake Bazaar, and our Christmas Potluck (also our annual meeting) are open to all.

  • Fellowship

We currently have five “Circles” at FUMC. These groups meet once a month, September through June.

Meetings—some held at church and some in homes—usually include time for refreshments and conversation, a program, and ongoing mission planning. If you’re interested in joining a Circle or even starting a new Circle, contact our president, Diane Jackson. You can also contact the church office.
