Jan lappin

Jan Lappin was born in Calistoga and raised in Santa Rosa, where she graduated from Montgomery High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Vocal Education at San Francisco State University.
Jan began her musical career by taking accordion lessons at the age of seven, to the delight of her parents and the dismay of her brothers and the family dogs. After taking up piano, she worked as an accompanist in the music and theater arts programs at Rincon Valley Junior High School, Spreckels Performing Arts Center, and Santa Rosa Junior College. She previously directed two local men’s barbershop choruses and currently is the director of both a men’s mostly-a cappella ensemble called Sonoma Chanson, and The Vintage Choir of Rohnert Park, a large mixed chorus based at the Senior Center there. She was a member of the theater company at Spreckels Performing Arts Center for several years and counts her appearance as Vera Sanders in “Smoke On The Mountain” as a highlight of her musical theater experience.
Jan has been a choir director in local churches since 1997, and was an accompanist here at First United Methodist Church for two years before accepting the offer to be the Director of Music.
Jan and her husband Bob live in Rohnert Park with their two dogs and Jan’s mom, Alleen. Her two sons both live in Santa Rosa. Family is important, and having family close by is a great joy. FUMC is an extension of our family, and I am happy and proud to serve the congregation here.
