We completed a family's home!

Yesterday, we finished our work at Ronnie and Coleen Foster's home.  They lost the roof off their house during Katrina, and then everything inside got soaked.  Then the house literally split in half.  They managed to get the house pulled back together and were working to finish it, but it was taking a looong time.  Their FEMA agent got them in touch with SUMA, and volunteer crews have been working since June to finish the interior.  We are the last crew to work on it.  We finished all of the work to do.  The only thing left is to complete the electrical installation, which will require an electrician.  Then inspection and --- occupancy.  It was an exciting day.

During our week and a half there, we installed tile floors in the two bathrooms and the kitchen, reversed a door, installed sinks and toilets, installed baseboards and door trim, installed a ceiling fan and a kitchen light, and installed the kitchen counters.  The place now looks almost like a home.  We could see that the Fosters were really excited to be almost into their home again after more than two years in temporary housing.

Coleen provided us with lunch every day.  They were a LOT better than sandwiches on wonder bread.  She was a great cook, making us things like pot roast, corned beef and cabbage, seafood gumbo, and chicken and sausage gumbo.  She was so pleased with all of our effort that she has invited the whole team for lunch on Friday.
