Outreach and Service Commission

Tuesday, November 28, 2017


Present:  Bill Dornbush, Lindsey Kerr, Diane Jackson, Andrea Davis, John Creager, Marsha Vas-Dupre, Carmen Rapp

Opening Devotion:  Each person shared words of gratitude.


Correspondence:  A letter was received from The Living Room.  Bill shared The Living Room’s Mission Statement. 


Minutes:  The minutes were approved as written.



Fair Trade Products – Bill

The Snowflake Bazaar sales totaled $548.

Selling assignments:

December 3:  Carmen

December 10:  Andrea. Linda

December 17:  Marsha and Jack

December 24:  John

December 31:  Diane


The Thanksgiving offering totaled $2,275, through November 20.


Report from Church Council- Bill

Bill shared some highlights of the meeting.  Check the website to read the minutes.


Wildfire Recovery Taskforce

The taskforce is negotiating with FEMA to place trailers at Stony Point.  They are awaiting a response.


Homeless Ministries Taskforce – John

The taskforce is working on establishing the Safe Parking Program at Stony Point.  Catholic Charities will do the intake but not the supervision. Supervision would require volunteers to check in at 8:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 a.m. 


Volunteer Opportunities in the Jail

Liana Whisler, Sergeant in charge of Inmate Programs and Services in the Jail is seeking volunteers.  She will lead a tour of the facilities and explain opportunities to volunteer.  We will publicize this opportunity in the bulletin.


Social Action Goes to the Movies

The theme is Democracy is NOT a Spectator Sport.  The programs will be on Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Congregation Shomrie Torah.  Our commission has agreed to co-sponsor the films and will publicize each film.




Socks and Underwear collection

The commission will collect socks and underwear again this year from December 3-18.  Diane will take the collected items to the Homeless Services Center on Morgan Street.




Bill has revised the Planning Calendar for 2018, adding Wildfire Recovery offering, a speaker or film and bulletin board in February and May 20, 2018 as the date of the Sonoma Chanson concert benefitting VIM.


Bulletin Board:

December:  Andrea will prepare the Socks and Underwear collection bulletin board. Diane will set up the Christmas offering for FISH bulletin board and Human Relations Day special offering after December 25.


Roseleaf article – Carmen will submit the article on Human Relations Day special offering.  Marsha will write about the FISH offering of food collected on February 4 and Bill will cover the Social Action Goes to the Movies, beginning January 27.


Lindsey closed the meeting with prayer.


The next meeting will be Tuesday, JANUARY 2, 2018, in the Carriage House. 

The meeting was adjourned at 5:08 p.m.
