Week of March 20, 2016

Luke 19:28-40

“Hold your when before God. Make space for your frustrations and unfulfillments to come out of hiding and present themselves in the light. Don’t rush... hold this moment as an opportunity to express and strengthen spiritual desire. Spirit wants to join you.”

Naked Spirituality, Brian McLaren

Monday: He continued on to Jerusalem

Read Luke 19:28

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem, aware of what he will face there. What helps you to continue forward when you know there are difficult times ahead?

2. How can your disappointments and frustrations bring you closer to God?

Prayer Focus

Ask God for the patience to persist and have faith, even in hard times.

Tuesday: He gave the disciples a task.

Read Luke 19:29

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. What is Jesus calling you to do? How are you being asked to help?

2. It can be hard to follow directions, especially if we don’t understand. Where do you find the willingness you need to persist?

Waiting is hard.  Ask God for patience.

Wednesday: ... the master needs it.

Read Luke 19:34

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. If this were happening today, what do you think the master, Jesus, might ask of us? What will we be asked to bring?

2. Inertia sometimes stalls our progress. How does your understanding of God’s guidance and support help give you the courage to proceed?

Prayer Focus

Pray for the willingness to follow through with what is truly needed.

Thursday: All were rejoicing and offering blessings to the king

Read Luke 19:37 - 38

2. What particular blessings, and gratitude, and praises do you lift up to Jesus?

Prayer Focus

Ask God to open your spirit to the wisdom and guidance you have been give, as you thank and honor the Prince of Peace.

Friday: ...if the disciples were silent, the stones would shout.

Read Luke 19:40

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. What does this surprising phrase mean to you?

2. What might the stones say?

Prayer Focus

God, sometimes we are so impatient. We want healing, now. We want peace, now. We want answers, now. As we progress to Holy Week, we reaffirm our persistent patience. We know what lies ahead, and we are still here. Surround us with your love, even during hard times, even when the future is scary, even when we are not comfortable. Help us create space to allow  you to fill our void, and lead us toward the light ahead.
