On October 17 at 4:00 PM, Sonoma Chanson will sing in a concert at First UMC. Many of us have heard them at services, most recently on August 8 and September 14. The concert will provide an opportunity for you to hear them perform both sacred and not-so-sacred songs.
Sonoma Chanson, under the direction of Jan Lappin, is composed of a dozen men* (original members are now going on 14 years with the group) whose camaraderie and enthusiasm for a cappella singing is evident. Their repertoire is quite broad, including the sacred, including Latin, spirituals, and contemporary; less sacred drinking songs and sea shanties; and a large selection of love songs, many with happy endings!
Sonoma Chanson sing for many groups during the year. Many of their concerts are at Christmas, and many are for the elderly who really enjoy hearing some of their old favorites as well as the more modern compositions. They have sung for Merrill Gardens, Varenna, The Tamalpais, FUMC, First UCC Santa Rosa, UCC Petaluma, Knox Presbyterian, Symmetricom, Friends of Petaluma River, and others.
Come and join us for an afternoon of men singing great music from the past and present. A free will offering will be collected to further their work in singing in Sonoma County for the elderly, the young, and whoever will listen, and to help further the FUMC Choral Music program.
