Minutes of the Finance Committee

First United Methodist Church, Santa Rosa

Wednesday, June 8, 2016--Carriage House


Present:  Mary Brunet (Business Administrator), Charlie Amezcua, Chris Bowen (Acting Chair), Bill Stephens  (Lay Leader/Staff Parish), Larry Schmidt, Claudia Ward (Trustees), Peg Ferrel (Lay Delegate to Annual Conference). 


Absent:  Tokasa Buinimasi, Ryan Comiskey, Jack Dupre, Mike Ferrel, Greg Roth (Chair), and Heather Young (Recording Secretary)


Chris Bowen called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m., beginning with a prayer.


Approval of Minutes

There was discussion as to whether or not the May 11, 2016 meeting minutes had been approved via email.  To be on the safe side, Bill Stephens moved and Larry Schmidt seconded to approve the May 11, 2016 Finance Committee meeting minutes.  The motion was passed unanimously. 


Finance Report

Larry Schmidt reviewed the financial statements for May 2016.  During the month the main checking account balance rose by $11,892.95 to a new balance of $81,755.62.  The operating fund balance increased by $4,601.89 to a new balance of $60,503.73.


Year-to-date (YTD) pledges and gifts were $359,287.17, which is 103.70% of the YTD budgeted amount.  Total YTD income was $414,276.12, which is 104.23% of the YTD budgeted amount.  YTD total expenses were $379,401.15 which is 95.80% of the YTD budget amount.  Overall, YTD total income has exceeded YTD total expenses by $34,874.97.


Business Administrator’s Report

The reporting of the Fund Balances are now functioning properly.  Janin Comiskey did the leg work to rectify this nagging issue. Clapping and cheers arose from the members.  All wished Greg had been present to hear the good news in person.


As there was no other business to consider, Chris Bowen adjourned the meeting at 7:35 p.m. after a prayer by Bill Stephens.
