Monday: By crying help, we choose expansion rather than contraction. Abraham believes and trusts in God for help and the fulfillment of what God has promised.

Read Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. Do you value independence over interdependence?  If so,  how might the story and example of Abraham nudge you to greater interdependence on God and others.

2. Do you trust God with every area of your life?  How about finances?  Relationships? Serving others? Worship as a way of life?  What does it look like to trust God in all of these areas?

 

Prayer Focus

Cry out to God for help in an area of your life you are used to handling on your own.

 

Tuesday:  Paul admonishes us to rely on Christ and

accept no substitute.

Read Philippians 3:17-4:1

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. God strength is known in weakness (i.e. the cross of Christ).  How might your weaknesses help to strengthen you?

2.  What help and resources can you depend on as a “citizen of heaven?”

 

Prayer Focus

Pray to receive some of those resources you identified in number 2 above.

Wednesday: The disciples face a problem they cannot solve...  They must rely on the help of Jesus.

Read Luke 9:37-43

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. Do you rely on Jesus’ help as a last resort or as your partner in all aspects of your life?

2. How can you express your interdependence on Christ today?

 

Prayer Focus

Pray that you may rely on Jesus even through the ordinary

activities of today.

 

Thursday: Jesus laments over Jerusalem and how he desired to nurture them, yet they were not willing.

Read Luke 13:31-35

Questions for Reflection and Application

1. Reflect on the intense desire of Jesus to take you under his wings. Are you willing?

 

Prayer Focus

Pray a prayer of surrender to Christ’s care.

 

Friday: Today’s reading expresses unwavering confidence in God’s help and hope.

1. How desperate are you for God?

2. What would need to change in your life to be more in touch with your deepest yearning for God?

Form a prayer from the verses of Psalm 27 that speak to you most.
