Meeting was opened at 4:05 PM with the reading of a letter from UMCOR by Jennifer Dornbush.

 

Minutes were approved as presented.  Correspondence was a letter and Annual Report from UMCOR

 

Bill gave a report on Fair Trade Products:  During the last 3 months of 2010 we sold $1900 worth of products.  That number was increased to $3400 during the same period in 2011.  Bill has no explanation for the increase.  Possibly our clientele is increasing.

Underwear, Socks & Toiletries was a huge success.  Jennifer and Diane delivered 11 boxes of goods to the Homeless Support Center to be distributed.  Kris kept count of what was collected.  She can give us accurate numbers next month.  We’ll put a thank you in the Roseleaf

 

FISH Sunday will be Feb. 8.  Bags will be handed out on Jan. 28 at each service.  Laurie went over the schedule as to who is handing out bags on Jan. 28 and who will deliver the filled bags to FISH on Feb. 5.  Thanks to Laurie for organizing this!

 

Church Council Report: Bill, Jennifer and Diane attended the meeting.  The 2012 budget was the main topic of discussion.  We were $60,000 short of our goal.  Balanced budget will be achieved by:

·         Limiting each group and commission to what was actually spent in 2011. 

·         Trustees will have $1,000 less for their expenses.

·         We will draw an extra $10,000 from the Ferguson Fund (Grant for Children & Youth programs)

·         Staffing changes include: Pat Sanborn goes from ½ time to ¼ time, After June 30 Connie Bergquist’s position will be covered by Janin Comisky, Cassandra Lawrence will cover both Children’s & Youth Ministries.  Bob Ressue music position eliminated.  Nancy Robinson’s music position will be figured monthly rather than annually to allow more flexibility.

 

Maurine purchased gift cards for Christmas gifts for the occupants of our room at Family Support Center.  We will submit the bill to 2011 budget expense as $125 from O&S budget and $125 from Scrip Funds.  Thank to Maurine for handling this.

 

VIM Steering Committee met and set the dates of Sept. 22- Oct 6, 2012 for our next trip.  Diane will again be team leader with lots of back up from the committee.  They are considering work sites in:

  • North Carolina– Outer Banks for Hurricane repair
  • Upstate New York near Binghamton for flood damage
  • Southern Tennessee/Northern Georgia near Chattanooga, TN for tornado rebuilding

They will decide location and fundraisers at their meeting in February.  Other churches will be invited to join the team.

 

Diane explained the eScrip program and urged everyone to sign up.  Currently Safeway, Oliver’s and Moles bury grocery stores participate by donating a % of your purchases.  Other merchants participate if you register your credit & debit cards with them.  Products include restaurants, travel, online purchases for merchandise, etc.  People can sign up online at www.escrip.com or sign a group sheet which Diane will make available at the Fair Trade Coffee Table.  People must renew each year.  She will submit the information to the bulletin and Roseleaf and Bill will put it on the web site.  We hope to renew interest in the program.  O&S is credited with ½ the total donated to use for outreach projects.

 

Promote Outreach:  Bulletin announcements will go in as needed. 

FISH bulletin board will stay up till mid Feb. to be replaced by One Great Hour of Sharing (March 18) which supports overhead costs of UMCOR. Easter Offering will be featured during late March & Early April.

 

Roseleaf articles will be One Great Hour of Sharing for March and Easter Offering for April. Jennifer will do information on OGHS, Diane will do information on eScrip.  We’ll talk about Easter Offering at our Feb. meeting.
