Custodian
Summary of Position
Performs a full range of custodial work in order to maintain all church facilities in a clean and presentable condition for church and community functions. This includes cleaning and sanitizing, minor maintenance, and room setup for various events, meetings, and services.
Supervision
The Custodian position reports to the Church Business Administrator.
Category of Position
This is a non-exempt classification. A specific position may be part-time or full-time, with a flexible schedule set according to the needs of the Church. This may include assignments at both campuses on the same day or different days.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following examples:
- Check the calendar for room set-up and clean-ups needed
- Check and replace all burned out lights
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, urinals, toilets and floors
- Stock restrooms as required
- Check for and perform minor repairs of building and equipment
- Setup for regularly scheduled events, meetings, and services
- Cleanup as required following events, meetings, and services
- Unlock and lock doors for visitors and observe basic security standards
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip/refinish floors
- Clean and maintain rooms, hallways, lobbies, stairways, and classrooms
- Wash windows and walls
- Empty and clean waste receptacles; transport trash and waste to disposal area
- Setup and cleanup for special events, weddings and memorials
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment; dust and clean furnishing, countertop surfaces and equipment
- Maintain designated landscape areas, including turf mowing, edging, and blowing
- Defrost and clean freezers and refrigerators as needed
- Regulate ventilation and temperature in buildings; change filters and clean air vents, and adjust shades and blinds
- Assist other staff with loading/unloading of supplies and other heavy items as requested
- Advise the Church Business Administrator of supplies that need to be ordered
- Advise the Church Business Administrator of need: for special cleaning that may be required; maintenance items such as plumbing issues, electrical problems, roof leaks, and mechanical maintenance
- Clean grease traps, flood drains, and sink drains
- Clean ovens, stoves, and kitchen areas
- Maintain kitchen fire retardation system
Minimum Job Requirements
- Physical ability to perform responsibilities
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in a full range of custodial work
- Ability to keep basic records
- Ability to work a varied schedule
- Ability to know and understand operations and observe safety rules
- Ability to follow directions and take responsibility for tasks
- Flexibility in work schedule
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the public, using principles of good customer service
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License prior to appointment, and transportation, such as an automobile, to travel between Church facilities or to pick up supplies from various vendors on short notice
