Geocaching

Geocaching is like a treasure hunt where you are given GPS coordinates and you attempt to find small, hidden containers. These little hidden spots are all over the world. It’s a fun way to enjoy the outdoors, and experience “who knew?”. If you have a hand-held GPS for hiking please bring it along to help find the caches. You can also download the “Geocaching” app for smart phones if you want, although neither one of these is required to join us. For more information about Geocaching, you can go to http://www.geocaching.com

Date: June 16, 2012

Murder Mystery: The Gravestone

It was a soft and summery day. A dozen individuals gathered in the Gravestone Saloon - some sweet, some definitely unsavory – but all with an agenda and a lust for gold. There was a loud noise! Shots were fired! And when the smoke cleared, one lay dead, with a trinity of well-placed bullet holes in his chest. No one would really miss Wavy Will Bronchus, that low-down, cattle-rustlin’, horse-thievin’ scoundrel! But the question remained, who done it? And what become of the treasure map and the clues to find the gold?

This was the exciting murder mystery hosted by Dennis and Michelle Higgs. The barbeque chicken was awesome and the side-dishes delectable as we solved this western who-done-it. Thank you Dennis and Michelle for an incredibly fun, rip-roarin’ afternoon!

Hike the Oat Hill Mine Road, Calistoga

Saturday April 28 was a GLORIOUS day for a hike: temp. in the mid-70s, a slight breeze to keep up cool, riotous bouquets of wild flowers decorating the hillsides.

We hit the trail at 930am and were up the mountain just in time for lunch. We picnicked at the old Holms homestead under the cool of the trees. What a marvelous day reveling in God’s creations!

Thank you Anne for leading this wonderful hike, and getting us there and back safe and sound!

FEBRUARY

February 4, Balclutha Sea Chantey Sing-Along

On Saturday evening FFG members gathered in San Francisco at a quaint and historic tavern on the wharf, The Fiddler's Green, for an easy dinner. After successfully lowering our vocal inhabitions, we ambled over to the Balclutha to join in a rolicking Sea Chantey Sing-Along. It was "Way hey and up she rises...", "Blow the man down..." and "Way, sing Sally oh" , until, thoroughly pooped, it was "Hoorah, me boys, we're homeward bound".

A big thanks to Jen and Lincoln Miller for co-ordinating and hosting this fun and unique outting. Fair winds, mateys!

JANUARY

January 21, Pinot, Pizza and Python

The outing to Sterling Vineyards was a great success! A big thank you to hosts Mark and Lindsay Frey for putting together this fun and exciting adventure.

Fifteen souls met at Sterling Vineyards for a tour and tasting of their standard wines, then, thanks to Mark’s connections, we enjoyed a personalized reserve tasting of another 8 outstanding wines. We were treated like royalty.

We returned to Frey’s for pizza, and an outrageous, inter-active viewing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

DECEMBER

Wednesday, December 21, 7PM

We'll start our evening at 7PM at the Stony Point Campus, where we'll join with other FUMCers to go Christmas Caroling in the neighborhood. After we've sung our hearts out we'll go over to The Brasserie at the Hyatt Vineyard Hotel in Railroad Square to exchange white elephant gifts and share some holiday refreshment.

For questions or more information contact Lindsay Frey or Joy Olsen.

NOVEMBER

On Saturday, Nov. 12, 15 festive FFG'ers decended on the home of Don and April Meixsell for a fabulous fall feast. The turkey and dressing provided by the Meixsells were fantastic, as were all the side dishes. Following the dinner we watched the funny/tearful movie "Family Stone" (ok, well some of us cried).
