FUMC Communications Team

Minutes – May 31, 2011

Attendees: Connie Bergquist, John Creager, Bill Dornbush. Kris Marshall

Action Review:

ACTION: Connie will research how to improve the yellow pages listing and other ads

STATUS: Mary fixed the online one so the addresses are correct.  We will need to check that it happened.  Now what about the PD?  How should we change these ads?

We can make a decision, and will look at fewer lines, probably not eliminating it as long as there is a cost saving for reducing lines.

ACTION: Connie: Include info about our FaceBook presence in Roseleaf as well as the web site.

Something is in the bulletin, will be in July Roseleaf, and it should also be put on the bulletin and Roseleaf as a continuing reminder, like we do for the web site.

ACTION: Bill will draft a suggested revised letterhead template.

Some changes were suggested, Connie will send logos in other colors, Bill will send out a revised version for testing.  We want staff acceptance, and will present to Church Council.

  1. Integrating Social media/facebook with the web site

To be discussed: Should the banner of the web site match the banner for the new facebook page?

  1. Branding

We asked for ownership of this, and we got it.  Now what?  Bill will begin to document our discussion about our strategy, including the use of logos for external, internal, and UMC communications.

  1. Other discussion

We agreed to not place a map ad.

We discussed the problem with spam entries for the family camp, and the defeat of captcha as a way to prevent this.

We agreed that we should add some pages for Newcomers to the web site.

We discussed the need for more people to help with content management on the web site, and will bring forth possible names at our next meeting.

We discussed the value of having rotating banners for the front of the church buildings, including the current one, with other thought provoking content, like “What if church considered ecology to be part of theology?”  Kris noted that some Wednesday night visitors said they had seen the current banner.

We discussed the signage of the buildings, and agreed to work toward changing the logo on the signs to the Uplifting Cross logo.

  1. Next meeting: August 2, 7 PM

We will generally meet on the LAST TUESDAY of the month.
