Art Gallery

You can’t help notice it as you walk down the hallway from the church office toward Fellowship Hall. First you’ll see the lighted wall plaques. Then, as you turn left at the corner by the stairs, you’ll finally take it all in -- the newly installed FUMC Art Gallery. What was once a rather dim and unwelcoming space has been transformed. And you will be, too, as you view each of the ever-changing exhibits, each done by artists in our church family.
To inaugurate the Art Gallery a community-participation show was created entitled, "Blocks of Love." These expressions of personal sentiment by over 250 people, ages 4-94, were produced and displayed on 3x3 wood tiles. As you stood back and glanced down the entire exhibit, the images blended into outbursts of artistic color, family homage, God-scapes, and personal tributes.
During the late summer of 2011 we produced our first one-person show, which featured the collage mosaic designs of Paula Peterson, and then during the holiday season we featured church artist, Carol Robertson. New shows are produced regularly. See the Roseleaf for news of our latest show.
CAMAB's (Creative Arts Ministry Advisory Board) goal for our Art Gallery is to feature various types of different shows, keeping them in place for only about two months. In most cases, art shows will be available for public viewing solely at the Montgomery Campus. Special church-wide art projects, like Blocks of Love, will be shared at both the Montgomery and Stony Point campuses.
If you have ideas about what (or who!) to feature at future art gallery shows, please give your suggestions to any CAMAB representative:
Doug Albertson, Staff Liason; Miale Bridgwater; Bob Cheal; Shirley Cheal, chair; Melinda Harris; Michelle Higgs; Dennis Higgs; Penny Hunt; Johanna McKenna; Paula Peterson
